Anyone know what the torque specs are for the exhaust header nuts? I used 14nm, sealed so far but couldn’t find any information on it anywhere. Getting the O2 sensor wire free from 2 frame locking zip ties inside chassis was TOUGH!

Greetings community,

So who has done exhausts on these bikes? Kits, custom, or otherwise?

Only thing i've been able to find online are Zard and Hitchcox.

I'm in the US (Colorado) and picked up my speed 400 about a week ago. Sounds great but i think could maybe sound better.

I've been looking at just getting a shorty megaphone or something comparable from Dime City or something and just welding it on but i'd also kind of like to get rid of the cat too.

I see the O2 sensor on the header, I doubt its a wideband though so any significant change to the exhaust would probable require some ECU adjustment too correct? I don't have huge plans for the bike other than maybe a filter and exhaust. Just curious if i should go ahead and piece something together and exhaust wrap it or wait for the aftermarket manufactures to catch up.

I'm just getting back on motorcycles after about a 15 year gap so i'm a little behind on the latest i guess, either way love the bike.

Thanks in advance for any input.

I bought the Hitchcox slip-on, and it's perfect. Sounds great at all RPMs, and really don't see the need on such a small cc bike for a full system. A+++ on the Hitchcox.

Thanks @RoadTripper, i hadn't came across this one yet.

Unfortunately I don't think its quite what i'm looking for, although it would be cool if they could just sell me the header piece.

Curious, has anyone removed the exhaust and weighed it? While the extra weight is exactly where you would want it to be on the bike dimensionally, I bet more than a few pounds could be shaved by removing the cat and all that extra exhaust stuff.

I am considering the Zard full system. It eliminates the CAT saving weight and I like the way the muffler ends up under the bike where the CAT was. I have shopped with Moto-Machines and they are great.

I was curious to see what was behind this exhaust end cap, it is only held on with two screws, so I thought I would have a little look.
Nothing to see really, the end of the exhaust is fully welded and has no option of removing a baffle.

17cm/7.5 inches in there is a drilled plate. In the past I would have got my drill out and increased the size of the holes. I am not sure that doing this would increase the noise of the pops on overrun as the cat and the resonator box are responsible for most of the noise suppression on modern bikes.

The layout is similar to a GS 750 I used to own. There was available for that bike a resonator link pipe. The resonator box is removed, with quite a weight saving and the pipe fitted between the end of the cat and the silencer. This increased the noise level and I felt it helped the engine breathe more easily.

Any thoughts?

Does anyone know who makes the exhaust/muffler in this photo. If I zoom in and squint real hard it almost looks like a Remus symbol on the silencer, but their website shows nothing for the Scrambler 400.

400X's endcan was sold as an accessory initially in chrome, atleast in India and this looks like it.
