My small tailbag is ok on the Speed 400 (31" inside leg), but my bigger weekend bag needs a hop and get your foot through the gap!

I have a larger tailbag that works well on my Norton and vintage Triumph, because those bikes have flat seats. The bag doesn't work too well on my Speed 400 due to the tall pillion seat.

Added a Unit Garage XL windscreen last night and tested it this morning. The worst part of the install was the 4 bolts that hold the windscreen mount to the inside of the headlight mounts. There is very little room to get the bolt and your hand in there to get it started. Once I got the bolts started, however, tightening them was pretty easy with an open end 10mm wrench. The rest was very straight forward and there are videos on YouTube to show you how its done so I won't repeat those here.

I am 6'1" and at 60mph I can start to feel the wind at my neck. At 70 there is buffeting and it was pretty loud. I wear earplugs so I don't think it will bother me but it was noticeable. I don't know if its worse than without a screen because I rarely would go 60+mph due to wind on my chest without a screen. Chest pressure is definitely gone even at 70+mph and that's nice. I think a clip-on would take care of the buffeting at higher speeds. Side clips might also help reduce/eliminate the buffeting.

Visibility is good. There in some distortion around where the bends are in the screen but I easily look over the screen. After a few minutes I no longer even noticed it.

Total cost, including shipping to the US was $282.92USD. Shipping was FAST! Ordered on Saturday and it arrived on Wednesday. Great looking screen.

I'll take some pictures when I get a chance.
Well, after a few rides with the Unit Garage XL, I would not recommend. The buffeting from the Windscreen is unbearable after about 30 minutes above 40MPH. Absolutely terrible. Loud (event with EarPeace ear plugs), shakes my helmet. Upon contacting Unit Garage to see if I could exchange for the smaller windscreen I was told "no". The windscreen is in perfect condition with no scratches or mount marks but still no returns and no exchanges. The smaller Windscreen is only 35mm (1.4 inches) shorter than the XL version and I don't think that will be enough to get the helmet out of the turbulent air. With the windscreen on, the difference between sitting and standing is night and day. I thought it was bad without a windscreen but now I see no windscreen is much better. Certainly much better than going with this windscreen. I also could not duck down behind it far enough to get rid of the buffeting. I even added a Kemimoto Clipon visor to extend the windscreen up about 4 inches but still the buffeting is incredible. I tried adjusting the kemimoto every way you can and nothing really helped.

The windscreen looks good and I really like the mount that also allows for mounting additional devices to it. But that buffeting is something I won't be able to live with. I suppose that if they won't exchange for the smaller version I will try to cut this one down myself and see if I can make it usable. Without being able to return/exchange I have nothing to lose.

@OldRed It is not good that the screen that you bought creates so much buffeting and you cannot return it. A friend of mine with a GS750 BMW had a similar problem, used spacers to change the angle of the screen with a limited amount of success. It might be worth trying before you start cutting it up.

This was a long running discussion on my last forum - buffeting with standard adventure bike screen, taller screen, smaller screen, adding spacers, fitting one of those extra screen extenders, little side fins to block gaps or taking the screen off altogether.

Unfortunately, even after 7 years on that forum, there was no definitive answer! Fortunately, I thought the standard screen was OK..

I guess we are all different heights, sizes, have different riding positions and wear different helmets.

It can be a difficult and expensive business and my Speed 400 will be staying 'naked'!

Bob T,

I followed your lead and did the same and got the ASV F3 Series levers. (The F5's way too expensive for me). Your comments and info spot on. I totally agree... "a bit pricey but very nice." I would include photos, but they look just like yours... except I went with the all-black color including adjuster knobs. I find the best improvement is on the front brake lever... where the stock lever engages the front brake with very little travel and the lever is still way out there from the grip with travel remaining that you will/can never use. So, by bringing that reach in a bit, it is much more comfortable, especially if you use one or two finger braking while down shifting, etc. Works really well for me. Similar situation on the clutch, but the front brake feel improvement is much better.

Oh, and that Amazon stuff is crap compared to the USA made ASV levers. Also, for others, if you google around for ASV discount CODE, you can find discount codes offered for ASV products. I found a 15% discount code that reduced the price pain considerably. Bottom line... really happy with ASV adjustable Levers. Thanks for your initial research and report on the forum.

Thanks Moto...Some things in life are worth the price... :)

Change seat to something black and more comfortable on my 400x, change tail tidy: thinking on getting Evotech one, and adding front shield: dark dart original or piranhas. Got already… saddle bag, 2 x oem gmoles, sumpt guard, tank pad, plus quadlock mount.

So far, small black flyscreen from Amazon.
Turns out to be a bit smaller and more upright than I d prefer, but I wasn’t looking to block air, I just like the look. So for $30 it’s fine!

Fly Racing soft saddle bags.
Still evaluating. Straps can go either over or under the seat. I dislike the look of any tail trunks so that’s not a possibility for me. I only need them for my work commute for some smaller items. Yes, you can’t take a passenger, but my days of asking young blondes if they’d like to take a ride are well in my rear view mirror.

I do have a pair of small clear aux driving lights also bought on Amazon, I’m now just trying to pick a mount, probably on the forks.

Small fuse box. Also Amazon. I do have a Centech auxiliary power box that I took off a bike I sold, but we all know the limited space anywhere on these 400s. It did not fit under the seat. Neither would a Fuzeblock brand. But I found a small fuse box that does the same job. I’ll use it for the driving lights and any other future accessory that I don’t plug into the USB port.

An alternative for those wanting to add more circuits is a small fuse box for mini-size blade fuses. These are commonly available from Amazon, ebay, etc. They are small enough that they may be able to be installed under the seat or behind a side cover on the 400s.

I've used them a few times when rewiring old British bikes. These bikes came originally with a single fuse for all circuits, so a single short circuit disables the bike. I rewire them to have dedicated fuses for lightning, ignition, battery, accessories, etc.
